Introduce Yourself! Please tell me a little about yourself by answering the following questions…. How many years have you attended Fort Hays? Interests/special hobbies? Children or pets? Where do you live? What grade/grades would you like to teach?
Welcome everyone! My name is Kimberly Stoppel and I will be your instructor for TEEL 202-Foundations of Education. I am so eager to meet each of you and help you get a clearer picture of the "life and world" of an educator in the 21st century. I have been an educator for 29 years. My passion is the early elementary grades where it “all begins!” But, I have experience teaching the intermediate grades in summer intervention programs. I am a second year instructor here at Fort Hays. I have decided that I can make a difference in many student's lives by working with future educators. It has been an exciting journey so far! I live in Russell, Kansas which is just 30 miles east of Hays. My husband Blaine and I raised 3 wonderful children in a 100 year old two story house that we renovated ourselves 23 years ago. We have two pets, a chocolate lab named Champ and a coal black cat named Spanky. I love to read, (obviously!), cook, and even do some trap shooting once in awhile! My favorite hobby is playing in a hand bell choir at my church. I will tell you a little bit about each of my family members during the first class session via adobe connect! It is my goal to make sure each of you becomes comfortable and confident in recognizing your role in this world as an educator. I look forward to a fun semester!

ReplyDeleteHello!
My name is Jennifer(Pfeifer)Crotts. I am returning to college to finish my degree! I currently live in North Carolina on the Fort Bragg Army base. My husband is in the military, and we have 2 children ages 2 and 4! My interests are photography, as I am a photographer. My interest is teaching in the preschool level. I have always loved being around that age, and I love the thought of being a child's first teacher.
Great to meet you Jennifer! I love the comment about loving the thought of being a child's first teacher! This is such a great reward as it gives them a head start on their confidence when starting Kindergarten as well as a positive thought on school! I taught preschool for a few years, and it is great to have that impact on kids!!!
DeleteThanks for replying! I'm so excited to work with Preschool age. Good Luck this semester!
DeleteHello Jennifer. We have so much in coomon. I also want to work with the preschool age group. I also love photography as well. I look foward to hearing some of your thoughts. Good Luck!
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Victoria Antle and I currently live in Colorado with my husband (we've been married for 11 years)and four daughters, ages 11, 8, 7, and 5. This is my second year as a virtual student at FHSU, and I originally was completing a Business Management degree with a concentration in HR. After some thought, I discovered an online teaching program, and decided to couple it with my other degree so that I can have the option to pursue various jobs in the school district. I consider teaching a very noble profession, and feel that making a difference in a school will be extremely fulfilling. I have home-schooled my two oldest daughters in the past, when I felt the area's school standards were insufficient and I can do better, and also again when we moved to a remote area in the mountains with no schools. My interests are my family, and I see myself teaching in Kindergarten or 1st grade. I look forward to a fun class!
Hello!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kyle Irvine. I am 22 years old and I am from Junction City, KS. This is my first year at FHSU taking online classes and I am eager to see how they will go. I recently graduated from K-state with a degree in Kinesiology, and now I am pursuing my dream of becoming a PE teacher. While at K-state I took an internship at Fort Riley middle school and it was there that I found I really wanted to teach and work with kids. I would love to work with any age group/grade, but if I had to pick a specific grade I want to teach I would have to pick the middle school level. I have one dog named GUS and a cat named Stretch. My hobbies/interest include playing sports such as basketball or football. I also enjoy exercising and attending sporting events.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Nisa L pronounced like Lisa but with an N. And this
is my first semester at FHSU pursuing an Elem Ed with minor in SpEd.
This will be my second bachelors degree. My first degree is a BS in

I live in Wichita, KS with my husband of 17 years, and our 2 kids,
Peyton Dawn and Tyson. Peyton is 5 and in kindergarten. Tyson is 3 and
in preschool/daycare.
This is my first year back as a working Mom. I have been home since I
was pregnant with Peyton. I work for USD 259 Wichita as a SpEd para. I
love my work and I can't wait to finish my teaching degree. My close
friend and mentor hoped that being a para would help me get a taste of
classroom life and help solidify my decision to teach. I can't
believe I get paid to do what I do, I love it so much.
We have lived in Wichita for 8.5 years since we graduated from KSU. My
husband is an architect, and was recently laid off. He is currently
doing architectural contract work. I grew up in Hays, KS, and my
husband grew up in Salina, KS. It feels good to me to be attending

Hi everyone ! my name is Brandy Bottass i have been a student at FHSU for three years. I hope to graduate this year with my AA degree. My interests are my and family and spending quality time with them. We enjoy going to theme parks, fishing, and swiming at the local beaches. I have been married to husband Dennis for 12 years and we have three children two girls and boy ages 11,9,and three. We also currently have three Chihuahuas and a German Shepherd and three fish tanks two that are fresh water and one saltwater. Currently I am not sure what grade or grades I would like to teach. I have been in the medical field for 11 years and thinking of a possible career change that is why I have taken this class. Both my mom and my brother are teachers and they enjoy it very much. My mom would have to be my biggest influence for going into teaching. So I decided to take this class and see if this my be where I want to go in a career or would I be better on to stay in the medical field. So I hope I can learn alot this semester and hope it gives me a direction into my future.
ReplyDeleteHi Brandy! Congratulations on graduating this year with your AA degree! I loved reading that you enjoy time at local beaches and that you are a dog lover. One of my favorite things to do is go to a beach and its even better when the furry family member gets to tag along. Have a great semester!

ReplyDeleteHowdy neighbor!
DeleteI live in Topeka too, and I went to 501 :o) I hope you are enjoying the district, and I look forward to getting to know you!
What are the odds of another student living in Pawnee Rock? While Jared lives out in the sticks, we live in town, which is about the same! This is my second year at Ft. Hays. Last year I was in graduate school but it just wasn't what I really wanted to do. I have a Bachelor's degree in General Studies from Pittsburg State and after having my transcript re-evaluated,Ft. Hays accepted more of my credits from three previous colleges, I saw that I could actually work on getting my teaching certificate. I currently am a special ed para and enjoy it more than I ever thought. I want to work in special ed in the elementary grades. My husband and I have five grown children that live literally, from coast to coast. We have five grands that aren't close enough! Three of our children are married, one is engaged and another has a girlfriend. All were with us in Pawnee Rock at Christmas, a total of 17, and we had so much fun!!! My husband is a teacher, two daughters are teachers and we have nieces and nephews that teach as well. When I can "schedule" some free time, I have a photography and craft addiction but need no intervention! Looking forward to this class.
ReplyDeleteGood evening! My name is Tammi and I live in Marengo Iowa with my husband Roger and our five (5) four legged children. We live in a 1920's farmhouse on five acres and absolutely love it! I have been attending FHSU for about 3 years now via virtual college part time, while working full time at University of Iowa Health Care. My husband and I love spending time outdoors whether it's roaming our five acres or camping at the lake. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this July!I am interested in teaching kindergarten but have thought about 3rd grade as well. I just know I want to help children learn and grow. Looking forward to "meeting" everyone and learning a lot this semester.
ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Kelly and I live in Wichita, KS. I am married to my elementary school sweetheart, Billy. We have a wonderful baby boy named Grayson. We just celebrated his first birthday! Time is flying by TOO fast! We have a dog named Ginger who looks just like a fox! This is my first semester at FHSU. I previously attended BCC where I obtained an associates in science. In my spare time I like to scrapbook, knit, and read. I have not picked any particular grades that I would like to teach. I want to go into Special Education, so wherever there is a need, is where I would like to teach.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, welcome to the class! Wow, it is so cool that you two were sweethearts all the way back in elementary school:) Things like that don't happen very often:) Congrats on your baby boy's first birthday, time sure is flying, isn't it? My oldest is 11 now, and it feels like just the other day I brought her home from the hospital! Good luck this semester!
DeleteMy name is Melissa Davis. I live in Hastings Nebraska. I have lived in Hastings my entire life. (I have been to Kansas quite a few times, as my Grandparents lived in Washington Kansas). I work in the Human Services field, working with individuals (adults) who have developmental disabilities. I have worked at my current job for the past 8 years. When I am not working or studying I enjoy shopping (I have a shoe and purse fetish) and watching tv (my favorite show to watch is Everybody Loves Raymond reruns). I have a dog named Meghan and a cat named Molly. They are both very spoiled. I attended a local community college part time for a few years and transferred this past fall to FHSU. I am wanting to major in Early Childhood Education unified while at FHSU and am wanting to teach either Preschool, Kindergarten or 1st grade.
ReplyDeleteHello Melissa!! It's great to see another from Nebraska!! I am studying the same degree as well and love Fort Hays State, so I hope you enjoy it as well!! Great to meet you and good luck!
DeleteMy name is Jake and I am originally from Wichita, KS. This is my third year at FHSU. I run track at Fort Hays, my main events are the 110 m and 400 m hurdles. Track takes up a large portion of my time, which is why I chose to take this class virtually. When I am not just relaxing after practice, I like to listen to a wide variety of music. I have no kids or pets, but really would love a HUGE dog. I am very interested in teaching Physical Education at the high school level because of the impression I could leave. One’s personal well-being lasts a lifetime and that is what I would like to portray to the kids.

DeleteHello everybody,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kelsie Richter. This is my second semester at Fort Hays State, and I’m doing my degree completely online. I live in Topeka Kansas, and I received my Associates Degree from Allen County. I very much enjoy bike riding, reading, and playing with my dog, Banksy. I would enjoy teaching pre-elementary education, specifically the toddler room. I’m really excited to be in this class and to learn more about what makes a good educator.
Hi Kelsie, I too am doing my entire degree online. Isn't technology great?! It's so nice that I can work full-time and do my classes without stepping foot in a classroom. Good luck this semester.
